Rae's Creek Community Garden

We are in the process of transforming four acres along the famous Rae's Creek into a garden the whole community can enjoy. The Rae's Creek Community Garden is already home to mature pine and hardwood trees, pileated woodpecker, heron, bass, bream, and other wildlife. Join us as we prepare a place of quiet reflection and a living classroom by planting trees and shrubs, installing benches, and building a flagstone walking path. Volunteering in the garden is a great way for kids to develop a love for the natural world, and for adults to reconnect with the outdoors in a fresh, new way. If you would like to spend a few hours in the great outdoors, e-mail us! We would like to thank the Creel Foundation for generously supporting this project.

Butler Creek Nature Corridor

Butler Creek runs for over 10 miles through south Augusta before emptying into the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. It is a large and relatively deep creek, suitable for canoeing and kayaking, with ample forest area on both banks for hiking and exploration, and is home to several mature pine and hardwood forests, as well as a variety of waterfowl, wildlife, and fish. Our volunteer crews and staff are currently working to restore portions of damaged habitat along the Corridor to make way for a 12 mile public recreation trail system. We are making great progess, but still need a lot of help. You and your children are invited to help bring the great outdoors to over 50,000 Augustans by picking up trash, pulling invasive plants, or building parts of the trail. Please e-mail us if you are interested in volunteering.

Rocky Creek Outdoor Classroom

Rocky Creek is a natural oasis amid one of the most urbanized districts of Augusta. A medium-sized and relatively fast-flowing creek that backs up to many apartment communities and neighborhoods, Rocky Creek offers south Augusta communities a chance to experience nature, enjoy a nature walk, or have a riverside picnic all in their backyards. The CSRLT has 15.5 acres of the creek and it's surrounding forest buffer under conservation. We have recently established a trail system to allow more easy access to the creek and are beginning to host outdoor education events for local underpriveledged youth, through the generosity of the Knox Foundation and the Community Foundation for the CSRA. If you would like to work with these children, or help us restore more of this property, e-mail us.
